Them Teeth

Lead every spectacle chaser,
Every hard-faced cynic you hoped you would meet
Back to your towelling bathrobes and your quilted sheets.
We wrecked the jawline so it ruined speech
And split the ape bone into two parts
Our fingers ripped it from the ocean floor
And sparked an E.T. light
So we would never screech again
Breathing out all the air you could suck in past them teeth,
Your lungs must struggle like a smoked whale.
Break every reverent silence
As you smash foundations and shuffle away.
Back to the muscular voice that keeps your hive in place.

Hawk Moth

A ribbon of road wraps you up as a gift
Sanding the corners where I sit
Mashing the switches 'til something explodes,
Which is never the way to clear the load
The distance is not in the minutes and miles
The distance is in the failing wires
Tin can with string
Like a nervously sent but better connection
To the place where our heads touch ground.
Hawk tongue grew long by aiming deeper,
A bullet to bring about answers long known
But left in the ink and leaves to grow.
The ribbon is ripped, wire to cut me in half
Ligature, lift me by the heart
Tiptoe the trapdoor, I'm foetal and bare
Waiting for time to kick the chair out from under
